使徒言行録16:1〜10

使徒言行録の16章で、準備ができていた青年、テモテが登場します。1〜2節によると、

「パウロは、デルベにもリストラにも行った。そこに、信者のユダヤ婦人の子で、ギリシア人を父親に持つ、テモテという弟子がいた。彼は、リストラとイコニオンの兄弟の間で評判の良い人であった。」（1〜2節）

テモテに対して最初に書かれていることは、「彼はすでに弟子であった」、ということです。訓練された青年だった。知識があった。情熱があって、献身的だった。顕著な青年であった。イエス様の後に従っていた。すでに、弟子であったのです。テモテの顕著さは、その学歴や資格にあった訳ではなく、彼は、よく準備されていたんです。テモテは、観客席にただ座っているような人ではなかった。グランドへ出て行ってプレイする準備が出来ていたのです。

先月、私はカンボジアとシンガポールに行ってきました。私のかつての休暇と言えば、何をゲットできるかな（何をもらえるかな）、というものばかりでした。観客であることに満足していました。でも、今回の旅は違っていました。観光客として行くのではなく、目的と使命がありました。いつも人と会って良い関係を築くよう努力し、仕え、励ますよう心がけました。そして、宣教のための準備は、ここ水戸教会で始まりました。

日々の生活の中でどこにいようとも、神様は私たちが仕える準備をしていることを願っておられます。私たちは、今、宣教の現場に派遣されていることを覚えたいと思います。神様は、私たちを今、用いることができる。もし、私たちが気づくならば。私たちは、準備ができているでしょうか？神様が働きに召される準備はできているでしょうか？聖霊様に導いていただく準備はできているでしょうか？ 訓練されているでしょうか？ 準備は、できているでしょうか？

“Are We Ready?”  Acts 16:1-10

In Acts 16, we read about a young man, Timothy, who was ready. Let’s look at verses 1-2:

Acts 16

 ¹He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek. ²The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. 

Our first description of Timothy is that he is already a disciple. I don’t imagine Timothy as having a lot of worldly distractions. This is a young man with discipline. He’s knowledgeable. He’s passionate and committed. He’s been training. And verse 2 says that “the brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.” This is a young man who stood out! He’s shaping his life after Jesus – he’s already a disciple.

A few weeks ago I traveled to Cambodia and Singapore. My vacations in the past have been all about what I can get out of the experience. I was content to be a spectator. This trip was different. Instead of going as a tourist, I had a purpose and a mission. I had the opportunity to constantly and intentionally connect with people, build relationships, serve, encourage. Whether it was the young adults in Singapore with whom I was blessed to develop friendships, or the Cambodian children with whom we shared our lives and laughter and food and time, or the members of our team with whom we worshipped and worked side-by-side – I was ready. The preparation – the readiness for the mission – began right here.

Wherever we are in our current, daily lives, I believe God is challenging us to be ready. We need to be aware that we’re in the mission field now. God can use us now – if we are aware. Are we ready for that? Are we ready for God to call us into service? Are we ready for the Spirit to lead us? Are we training? Are we ready?
