「残された時間」 〜恵みの善い管理者として〜　　

1ペトロ4：1〜11

私たち人間は、「死」を避けることができません。私たちはいつ死ぬかは知りませんが、皆いつか死にます。けれども、私たちは特別なことがなければ、あまり死を考えずに生きているのではないでしょうか。自分のいのちが、この世で永遠に続くかのように考えてしまう。自分は、まだ死に対して遠い。遠い未来のことだと思っている。けれども、それは錯覚です。私たちはいつ死ぬか分かりません。

ダビデも言いました。

1サムエル20:3　「けれども、主とあなたに誓います。私と死との間には、ただ一歩の隔たりしかありません。」　

生と死との間には、ただ一歩の隔たりしかないのです。ところが、この死は、私たちのすべてを終わらせるものではありません。死後の世界があります。死は、「永遠の世界の始まり」なのです。聖書は、死ぬと、肉体は腐っていきますが、私たちのたましいは永遠の世界に入っていくと言っています。そして、私たちが神様に与えられたこの命、この人生をどう使ったかを「清算」される日がある、と言っています。

「彼らは、生きている者と死んだ者とを裁こうとしておられる方に、申し開きをしなければなりません。」　（1ペトロ4：5）

私たちは、自分の人生を好きなように生きることができます。自由意志があるからです。どんな仕事をするのか、誰と結婚するのか、どんなところへ行くのか、ほとんど自分で決めることができます。しかし、聖書は、私たちが神に与えられたこの命、この人生をどう使ったかを「清算」される日があると言っているのです。

私たちクリスチャンも、やがて主の前に出て評価される時が来るのです。自分の生き方、自分の働き、自分の言葉を。神様が私たちに与えられて下さった命を、この地上でどのように神様と人々のために使ったか評価される時が来る、ということなのです。では、どのように生きれば良いのか。その「生き方」を、1ペトロ4章は教えてくれています。

残された時間を、本当に残るもののためにささげる。自分のためにお金をため、自分のために働き、自分のために生きているだけの人生。何も残らない人生では、もったいない。私たち、やがて来る終わりの日に備えて、天にたくさんの宝を積んでおきたいと思います。

“Rest of Our Lives: As a Faithful Steward of Grace”

1 Peter 4:1-11

We cannot avoid death. We don’t know when, but everybody dies. But unless we have special occasions, we don’t think about death seriously, do we? We think we are far from dying yet. It will come in the far future. But this is an illusion. We don’t know when we will die. As David said in1 Samuel, “there is only a step between life and death” (1 Samuel 20:3).

However, death does not finish everything. There is a world after death. Death is a beginning of eternal world. According to the Bible, when we die, our flesh delays, but our soul will go into the eternal world. Then, the Bible says, there is a day of “liquidation” how we used our lives.

“But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” (1 Peter 4:5)

We can spend our lives freely, because we have a free will. We can choose and decide what kind of job we do, who to marry with, where to go, almost everything by ourselves. But the Bible says, there is a day of “liquidation” according to how you used your life given from God.

The day will come when and even Christians are judged before the Lord according to our way of living, our actions, and our words. The day will come when we are judged according to how we used our lives for God and how we used our lives for other people. Then how should we live? That is what 1 Peter 4 is telling us about.

Let us devote the rest of our time for what truly remains. It is such a waste if we save money for ourselves, we work for ourselves, and we live for ourselves only. We’d like to prepare for the coming day of our end. Let us store up for ourselves treasures in heaven.
